Janan met Gaurav back in 2014 on her first trip to Nepal. He was one of her group’s porters and the two became fast friends! Gaurav was working as a porter to save up for and pay for his undergraduate degree in Nepal. In 2015, the earthquake that devastated Nepal ended up destroying Gaurav’s family’s farm home, so Janan and her yoga community back in Dallas, TX raised over $5,000 to rebuild their home that year. Now the farm is thriving and providing food for the village!
In 2017, Gaurav was the main guide and trip planner for Janan and Maria’s honeymoon in Nepal! They of course became even closer as friends, and combined with each of their passions of Himalayan travel, they opened up Generate Trekking, a trekking company that provided the best service, eco-friendly lodging, and inter-cultural experiences in the world. It was awesome!
They had earned enough after 2.5 years of operating through Gaurav tireless work to pause the company so that Gaurav could attend graduate school in France. Attaining a degree at this level and finding working in Europe meant that Gaurav could provide a lot more for his family back in Nepal.
For us all, when COVID hit, we got hit. Financially, emotionally, mentally. Because of that and the transportation strikes in France, Gaurav has had a very rough 2020 making things work in Paris. He finished his degree! and now has his last bit of tuition to pay by September 15th.
Let’s embrace fellow humans around the world by a whole community coming together to eat baked goods and help out Gaurav. This dude deserves it.
From Gaurav:
“My name is Gaurav Nepal, I am currently doing my master’s degree in Data Science and Analytics in Epita. I did BSC(IT) and there is no such college in my home country (Nepal) which offers Data Science. That’s the first reason I am currently Abroad (in France) to complete my degree. As a result of a lot of effort and study, I got accepted at a university in France and I paid half of my fees and other expenses from my savings, which I had earned back in Nepal by being a Trekking Guide. Because of a big strike in Paris, my living and transportation expenses are far greater than anticipated; plus, the language barrier is making it challenging to find a part time job.
My total college is 6900€ , which I have to pay 2900€ within 15 September, 2020 .
Unfortunately, I need to ask for money to be able to achieve my goal, because the savings I earned by working for years will not allow me to achieve that dream currently. Donating any amount will give me hope to continue and will make all the difference in my life. Once I complete my study, my dream is to also help the needy people who want to achieve something good that changes their life. Achieving something new and trying to stand strong won’t allow me to go back! I will be forever be grateful for any help!”
